Shelby Arnold

Artist, Designer, Paper Engineer, Interactive World Builder

Shelby Arnold plays with electronics, designs pop-ups, and often combines the two to make interactive art. She has worked with Robert Sabuda since 2003, designing award winning pop-up books and cards. In her spare time she teaches classes at NYCResistor, a hackerspace in Brooklyn, and also builds stop-motion props and sets. An avid puzzle solver, she has sustained a passion for making interesting objects since childhood.

She has been a guest lecturer at The Pratt Institute, the Movable Book Society,  and at both the Bay Area and New York Maker Faires, and in 2012 she was awarded a TA grant from the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.

Robert Sabuda

#1 NYTimes Bestselling Author, Pop-up Book Designer

Robert Sabuda is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Pratt Institute in New York City.  He’s also been an associate professor at Pratt, where he began a program in Paper Engineering that continues to encourage the next generation of paper artists.  

He’s a two-time recipient of the New York Times Best Illustrated Book Award and has over five million books in print translated into over 25 languages worldwide.

Robert appears regularly on television where he shares his enthusiasm for creativity, children’s book art and literature.

Simon Arizpe

Artist, Designer, Paper Engineer, Interactive World Builder

Simon Arizpe is an award winning paper engineer and illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY. His pop-up book work has received the Society of Illustrators Award of Excellence and honorable mention from the Museum of Comic Book Art and Cartooning. The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum Library and the School of Visual Arts Library have acquired his work for their permanent collections.

In addition to his design work Simon has been a guest lecturer on the subject of paper engineering at The Pratt Institute, Otis College of Art and Design, St. Ann’s School for the Arts, and The Tucson Festival of Books. www.simonarizpe.com

Ms. Angela B. has invented a new game. Eager to show it off, she brings it to her local crossword puzzle enthusiasts’ club. However, the prototype is stolen soon afterwards, and she begins to suspect her fellow club members of foul play. She sets about gathering evidence…only to disappear herself.

This Mysterious Case contains lots of code breaking puzzles (don’t we all have a never-ending secret desire to play with decoder wheels?) and a winding plot with a cadre of secretive characters. It’s up to you to find out who stole the prototype, and the location of its inventor!
